COMMERCIAL.
Cheistchukoh, January 3. The weather during the past week has been very variable, but now appears more settled, and favorable for both field work and maturing of the grain in the ear. Business has been very quiet, and we have only heard of two or three trifling sales of wheat, at 4s 9d to ss, for delivery to millers. Flour is in fair trade demand at £13. Bakers and dealers are careful to only lay in slocks for about a- fortnight, in hope of an early reduction in vqldo. Oats continue dull and declining, and buyers only offer Is 6d to Is 9d for parcels of any si2e. It is improbable that the price of new oats will exceed Is 6d for some little time. Mo new barley is yeb offering, but samples may be looked for during the next ten days. Potatoes are coming in very freely for so early in the season, but are of course not fit for shipment The crops look exceeding ly well, and will doubtless be very large. Butter is in abundant supply, at 7d. There are, however, no speculative buyers this season. Old cheese continue to be in demand at 6d. New are not fit to ship vet, but are offering at sd. Hums and bacon are quiet, and continue to bo quoted at lOd in cloth.— Press.
