FOXTOX LOCAL BOARD VALUATION.

We understand the new valuation for the Foxton Local Board just completed by Mr Thynne, estimates the rateable value of the property within the district at £7206 155. The valuation for 1877-78 amounted to £6880, whilst that for the following year amounted to £7236. It will therefore be seen that the valuation for the incoming year is some £80 less than'that for last year. At first sight this appears very disappointing, especially considering the large number of new buildings that have been erected during the year. The discrepancy may be attributed to the fall in the value of land throughout the Colony, which has of course to a certain degree affected Foxton, in addition to which is the fact thqii a number of the valuations last year were considered rather heavy. We persumethat in such cases Mr Thynne has lowered the estimate made by Mr Moinet, so that the new buildings erected during the past year will almost balance the excess of the valuation of 1879. Comparing the valuation of 1878 with that just completed, an increase of £876 is shown, and it is satisfactory to know that so able and competent a valuer as Mr Thynne regards the rateable value of the township as improving at the rate of nearly £200 per annum.
