L'.-tter from tho Committee endorsing the application. Hesolved — That Mr Postans have leave of absence, without salary, and without the Board pledging ilsolf to do other than give him tho first, vacancy on his return ; to bo, however, regarded on the s'aff of the Board. Resolved further that extra school accommodation he provided as soon as the Board's fvtJidn would permit. Halcomhe. — Letter stating that the school had been closed on December l(Hb in consequence "f the prevalence of whoop* ing cough. The Chairman had replied ex* pressing surprise at the action thken without reference to the Board, and asking for a copy of tho numifcs. No reply had been received. Moutoa — Letter asking for fence round the playground. Mr Sauson thought that as timber was so plentiful there, the Committee might very w-11 undertake the work themselves. Karere. — Application for repairs to cost t'4o, in order to accommodate a married teacher. Not ag- ecu to. The Inspector stated that 71 were present nt his examination at tho Jv^rere tfchonl. A. monitress had been engaged temporarily, and it was resolved to pay her £2 for her services. Appointments. — Mr Paries to Croft ou, subject to his complying with the regulations. Mr Gowcr, at. present, at Karere, to Aslihurst. Mr G nth rip, at proseut at Goat Valley, to Karpro. Ballot. — Tho list of six members were road, from whom tho three were to be ballotted : — Messrs Wait, Ross, M'Cfro gor. Snelson, Baker, and Halcombe. The ballot resulted as under: Watt 3, Ross 4, M'Gr<»»or 3, 5, Baker 1, Vlalcombe o. The three members rcei-iving the high* cst number of crosses were declared billlotted out. Pupil Teachers. — Mr Sanson a. j !;ed what school iv Wanganui it. was proposed to .send pupil teachers to for experience in the. art of teaching. — Tho Inspector replied that it was proposed to scud them to the iligh School in Wanganui. In the Boys.' School the Hoard bad the teacher with '.ho highest qualification in the colony, while at the Girls' .School they had v mistress possessing very hL'h qualifications. — Mr Snnsni considered that, the Board had no option but to carry out the resolution passed in August last that thft pupil teachers should be sent to Wellington. He knew of several young ladies who had been looking forward \'t the trip, -md it would be breaking faith with them. He moved that iffect bo given t i the resolution pissed iv August last, and that four female pupil teachers be scut to Wellington in March next, the male pupil teachers to attend the Wanganui High School, Seconded by Mr Ross and carried. — On further enquiry being made, it was ascertained that tlie Government grant to defray the cost of these pupil teachers attending a Normal School was only promised fur thy financial yeiir ending Juno 1870. It wa.s decided to hold over any action until it was ascertained that the money was still available. The names of the four teachers selected arc Misses Sansou, Campion, Harding and Vtevens. Estimates. — Resolved that tho Hoard meet on 15th February, at '-1 p.m , to prepare for Government an ostimnto of school buildings required tor year 1880. Resolved that the Chairman and Sir William Fox be a deputation to wait upon tho Minister of Education iv Wellington for tho purpose of urging upon Government tho necessity of providing funds for urgent do-mand-j upon tho Board.
