(heuter's telegrams.) "- St. Petersburg, December 3. An unsuccessful attempt has been maile^in^te life of tho Emperor of Russia, who arrived at Moscow yesterday. The train following with baggage was blown up, and seven carriages completely destroyed. Fortunately nobody was injured The perpetrators are unknown, but the outrage is the undoubted work of the Nihilists. The Emperor in reply to a deputation presenting a congratulatory address, thanked God for his escape, and appealed to his subjects for aid in exterminating sedition. The carriages which exploded were not railway cars, but ordinary baggage carriages following the Emperor'in the streets of Moscow. 4th December. Further particulars of the attemped massacre show that the Emperor escaped solely because the order for the departure of the trains conveying the Emperor and baggage respectively was reversed; otherwise the explosion would certainly have been fatal. It 13 ascertained that the explosives were fired from a house in the vicinity of the line taken by the Emperor. The criminals escaped undetected. The matter has caused profound sensation. It is intended to retain the Ameer of Afghanistan under restraint in India.
