A cake of amalgam, weighing 3681b5., was brought in to town last night from the Mount Kangitoto silver mine ; thic being the first that has been received, and when it is considered that the amalgamating ma* chine only left Hokitika for the mine on Saturday waek last, it must be taken as a gratifying result. Christchurch, Friday At a meeting of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce to-day, it was resolved to telegraph to the Government to ask them to send a man-of-war to the Croze's to search for indications of the wreck of the Knows* lej Hall. Oamaru, Friday. A fatal accident occurred at the Agricultural Show to-day. Several men were jumping horses over hurdles when one of the horses refused to jump and rushed amongst the crowd of people looking on. A blacksmith named William McKensie was knocked down, and the horse trod on him, smashing in his ribs and inflicting injuries from which he died in a few minutes. He was a hard-working man, and leaves a wife
