A GRIEVANCE.
TO "THE EDITOKOF TIIE MASAWATU lIEHALD. Sia,— l have ever found your columns open to fair discussion, bu t in regard to a letter from "Katepayer " (not written by me, as is supposed), you say that a line should be drawn somewhere I cannot understand you, Certainly if proved to be, written in a spirit of bifrer animus, then draw a line somewhere, but not "Until you have thoroughly sifted, or have had an opportunity of judging how far ."Ratepayer's" letter is in the abject case. " Ratepayer" may have taken a. simple method in bringing before the public a grievance ; if bo, then simplicity, in my opinion, should take precedence of arrogance. As the person to Avhom "Katepayers " letter had reference is in his public capacity an autocrat, I, for one, felt very much surprised in hearing the gentleman voted to the head of the Board ; but, Sir, when we hear him deliberately stating thtxt he trea.s all letters written to news- ► papers, tending to recall him to his dtfry, with contempt, then, Sir, ho is a gentleman in a public position,as you aver— - Money maketh the man, 7 ' The wani of it it's fellow— '. Tho roßt is all leather or prunella. v . ttut, Sir, power given to man to spend public money, who treats everything with contempt, means absolute power ; and I trust the two, independent members of the b'oxton Local Board will scrutinise the ac* tions of the other party representing ihe answer to Thurlqw's expressions as above. We desire to state that this article of poem will be accepted if wo have to crowd out advertisements fo make room for it. A mud turtle can neither fly, sin_?, gallop, laugh, cry, or go blackberrying, and yet if they are loh alone they get albng just as? well as the young man who tries to bo funny at a lawn party.
