COMMERCLAL.
The Canterbury Press thus refers to the I grain and produce market, under date November 8 : — Business durintr the past week has continued on the usual quiet course experienced at this season of the year. The only transaction in wheat of any consequence has been the sale of a cargo for shipment to ,Peru by the Deutschland. The figure at which the sale was ma:de is withheld, and the port of loading has not transpired. It is satisfactory to state that our export trade to this new market is likely to continue and increase. Several small parcels of farmers' wheat have been sold to millers afc up to os, and more would be taken up at same figure. Flour is in fair request at £ 13 for best brands. We have heard of some complaints of the quality of the recent importations of Adelaide floury several town bakers declare they can make much bettor bread out of our own local made flour. Oats are quite out of favor with merchants, who show a desire to decrease rather than augment stocks. repeat last week's quotations of Is 9d to 2a^ according to quality, but they must be considered nominal. Np barley is offering. A small parcel of Calif ornian arrived' during the week for one of our brewers, who gives it a good name, although its appearance ■would hardly give one that impression. Only a local business ii beiug done in potatoes. Butter comes forward freely, and is rather difficult to pluce. afc satisfactory rates ; 7d is the price asked, but buyers are shy of operating at that figure. A fair demuud exists for prime cheese at s^d to j 6d. Hams and bacon are slow of sale at Slj bare, and lOd in cloth.
