THE MELBOURNE CUP.
Memiourxe, 4th November. The races were continued to day. There was an immense concourse of people, and a brilliant assembly of ladies congregated on the grand stand and on the lawn. The weather was splendid, and the racing was very close. TUB MELBOURNE CUP. A handicap sweepstakes of 20 soys. each, 10 ft, or 5 if declared, with 500 added ; the Rceoud horse to receive 200 soya. , and ihe third 100 soys. out of tho stake. Two miles. (122 subs). Mr W. Rawlinson's br h Drrriwell, by Tim Whiffler (imp.)— Noma, 5 yrs, 7st 41bs 1 Mr T. Ivory's b h Sweetmeat, by Yattendon — Sultana, 4 yrs, 7sfc lib (mo 51bs extra) 2 Mr E. Howie's gr c Suwarrow, by Snowden— Phizgiir, Syrs, Gsfc Ub (mo 31bs extra) 3 Tweuty-seven started. Won by a length, after a fine race. Tinie, 3min. 33;js.ecs. Secuudus was " blocked " in the race for tho Cup, and could not get through his horses. Le Loup, the New Zealand horso, ran badly, and finished nowhero. Ho was third in tlie race for the Melbourne Stakes, and a good second iv the Essendou S takes on Saturday.
