_+ — : — Wellington, Monday, 7 p.m. Both ends of the cable at White's and Lyall Bays are buoyed, and evety thing is ready for making the splice as soon as the tide serves. The cable to oe laid between the buoys has been completely repaired on board, and, should weather permit, the work will be completed tomorrow. Wellington has di awn 12 horses in Tonks Albion Derby sweep on the Melbourne Cup. The Committee appointed by the House to inquire into tho banking arrangemen's of the Government sat to-day They reported it was inexpedient, in view of floating the fi\;e million loan, to make any alterations in the banking arrangements of the Government at present.and a proposal that the Government banking should be thrown open to public competition was negatived by seven to six.
