WANGANUI CATTLE SHOW.

The managers of the approaching Wanganui show are either very exclusive or very incompetent. Although Manawatu farms are stocked with some of the best blood in the Colony, and although the district has hitherto been well represented at the Wanganui shows, not a single notice was given of the date of entries, &c, in the district papers, until the day they closed. This journal, which has a large circulation in the districts of Sandon and Carnarvon, was not honoured with an advertisement at all, whilst our Palmerston and Feilding contemporaries contained notices for the first time on Wednesday last — the very day the entries closed. The notices published that day state that " entries for the show will be received by the Secretary through the post,. up to Wednesday, Oct. 29 ; after which no entries will on any* consideration be accepted ! " The result is, that several intending exhibitors have been debarred from entering. A resident at l^almerston, who has been fattening^oattle anclotherwiße preparing for the show during the last v three months, has the mortification of knowing that the whole of his trouble has been in vain, being unable to enter his ani-

nials. We believe there are other instances. This mismanagement is to be regretted, as it creates suspicions of the genuineness of the desire for extended competition. Not only so, but it also disheartens competitors from preparing for future exhibitions. A little more printer's ink will in future prove to the Committhe a good investment.
