TO THE EDITOR OP THE MANAWATU HERALD. Sir— Will you kindly oblige by inserting the following lines in defence of an absent man :— ln "0. G. Hewsbn's" letter of 11th inst. he takes pity on '•' poor Pratten." Certainly Samuel Pratten has the failing rnen~ tioned by him, and he also has another very bad one not mentioned by him, " ingratitude ;" for Pmtten has received many favors from William to my certain knowledge. And 1} for one, have always been paid by him ; in fact, I would rather ** trust Langley than Pratten. «And " one thing in favor of Langley is, he is a hardworking man, which is more than I can say of the other party, who takes things in general very easy ; and all I can say is, that "O. G. Hewson" is very lucky in getting paid unasked, which is not the usual thing with poor Samuel Pratten. J am, &c., Leather. Otaki, Htb/October, 1879.
