formation and metallukgon WWson's line of road, Sanaon. '\ ■ I submit voucher fdM^poaJpfnt for hand rails fixed on bridge on (Weinetory Road. These said rails were stiitecß ty mistake by Croucher, he having to do alOounty bridge over same creek, and wistooßfethe rond line for the one ordered by CourHb. I may say one and all of the bridgo*. (where much traffic is) should have handlroils fixod and painted white for the safety |>i' the traveling public. I I have had a laborer on re|?a : rmg metalled roads in this Ward, the paid road outting into deep ruts. I No2Wabd.| I rode round the While liije, River Bank Road, and Hickford'a Wgof road, and found some in a fearful ijbte, v some placeß almost impassa)le. The works an recommended and tenders called for should be put in band at once ; by dfpinfiT so a great saving will be made, as ther4 are so many men now requiring work. JCi* 0 contractors for Whale line of road have «t down the whole of the scrub, flax, &oJ>n the whole length from Foxton-Sanson ifl^ to River Sank road ; and only await Mb weathei to burn some off. ■ I have ordered timber^ the repairs to culverts on River Banh t*oad, but through the mill being stopped rave not been able to get some, expect in nf ew days to report these ou'verta beiDg repaired. No. 8 \fARD. The contractor for repairs to Moutoa Rond haa fjnifonfl his ff ork r as also Bome^ Blight repairs to parts trat were^w^SfivcT away by late freshets. Symons* drain. — 1 visited this spot, and carefully went over the whole length, about which so many complaints have been made to this Board by Mr C. Symons. So far as this Board is concerned, I do nit see that they have any reason to interfere with the matter, as the water is brought down by private individuals having cut a ditch in some cases on side of road line, and in others through their own property down to G. Symons' boundary ; this water is not, doing any damage to the road line, so that I do not see 1 have any right to interfere to protect the interests of this Board in this matter. Symous suggested a plan to carry the water off, but such a course would cost from £150 to £200. at the least. 1 think the only work this Board is entitled to do is the clearing out the outlet drain from Syinons' house to the Manawatu River. It' this outlet was widened and deepened during next summer it would be of great benefit toO. Symons, in relieving his ground of water.
