OTAKI HIGHWAYS VALUATION.
TO THE EDITOB OF TUE MANAWATU HERALD. Sir— ln answer to your foot note, allow me to state that although there is a right of appeal, still it is an ordeal that few would care to face. When you appear before the Board, they all assume'the countenances of judges about to pass sentence on a murderer, and calculated to make you feel yourself the meanest man on the face of the earth. On receiving my assessment I attended the next meeting of the Board, when they told me (looking daggers the whole time) that it was out of their jurisdiction.and that I must appeal to the Resident Magistrate's Court. Now, Mr Editor, appealing in these days means loss of time and money, so that to get a few pounds taken off the assessment you are put to as much expense, besides being looked on as a second Judas Iscariot. But, \lr Editor, the right of appeal being granted : does that justify a public body in employing an incompetent servant P I am, &c, Thos. Bevax, Junr. Otaki, 13th August.
