A cable message received from London, states that a deputation of merchants and owners waited on the Chancellor of the Exchequer on the : question of the Eastern mail service, a result of which has been that the Orient Steam Company have expressed their readiness co carry on with the Australian colonies a fortnightly mail service to and from Naples, for the postage. The committee-clerks and messengers are going to present Mr OUiorke with a handsome illuminated address, in recognition of his services in pi ocuring them half-pay during the recess. The House met at noon. Major Campbell took the chair, and several petitions were presented, one relating to reading the Bible in schools. . A message was received from the Governor, stating he assented to the Supply Bill, New Zealand Loan 'Bill, and Maori Prisoners Bill. S Parliament was prorogued by commission. A deputation waited upon the Premier, regarding assisted immigration, and he replied that instructions had already been sent home to put a stop to any further free immigration, excepting in the case of single girls. The New Zealand tea per Minmuer comes to Wellington direct by Wakatipu, which leaves Sydney on the 15th inst. TheJSydney exhibition is definitely fixed to open on September 17. The writs for the new election are expected to be issued on Thursday.
