The Council resumed at 7 p.m.. when the same members were present. Jlr Halcombe brought up the report of fclio advertising Committee, which was to the effect tliat the newspaper proprietors wore willing to adopt, as heretofore, a scale of 3s per inch the first insertion ; 2s per inch second insertion ; no type to be used above a certain size ; copies of all advertisements to bo attached to the accounts, and all County notices to bo put in the saina column. Mr Halcombe moved, and Mr Sanson seconded—" That the report bo adopted." Dr Rockstrow said the report did not reach the quostion, and would not effect aiiy saving. He could see Councillors did not feel disposed to discuss the question . The Chairman said the sub-committee had no option in the matter. They had conferred with the newspaper proprietors, and had made the host bargain they could. He did not think sticking up posters, or that sort of thing, would be practicable. They had not gained much concession, but still they had gainol a little. Mr Sanson said the arrangement would result in a pretty considerable saving, as only advertisements relating to local matters would be inserted in the paper printed in the distriot to which such looal matter referred. He thought Mr Thynne, a gentleman experienced in such matters, should be asked to obtain the necessary information for the Council. Dr Bockstrow said Mr Thynne held land in the town, and would be an inter- [ ested person. He considered the Engineer qualified to report on the matter, as he had no interest in the question. Mr Sanson thought offers iv writing might be received by the Council. The resolution was carried. FERKV RESERVE. Dr Rockstrow proposed — ''That the Engineer be instructed to hare the Ferry Be*
