* Yestepoay. FOUR PRISONERS COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. Yesterday w:is a " big" day at tho Palmerston Court, no less than four prisoners being committed for trial at Wanganui. The following wore the cases tried : — EJward Price, aliis Robert Derritt, was charged with having stolen a gold watch and chain, Value £14, from the Jlauawatu Hotel, Foxton, The evidence of Mrs Putter (to whom the watdi belonged), Henry Daards, and Cjnstablo Gillespie, was taken, and accused wasconmitted to stand hU tiiilat Wanganui. Henry Aslatt, for attempting f-uicido at Uaiujsse Farm, was committed for trial. The unfortunate man is recovering slowly from the consequences of his rash act. John Stdvens Hutchison, a youusr mm of rather " seedy " appearance, was charged with issuing at Feilding two valueless cheques— ono for £40, and another for £10. The accused, who had victimised several persons at Koilding; seemed to feel his position acutely, mid hail nothing to say in dofence. Co.nmicted for trial on both charges. George Thompson, the man arrested by Constable Gillesph at the Oroua Bridge last Saturday, riding i\lr Piers Wacburiou's horse, was also committed for trial. Tho Court sat at 12 o'clock, adjourning for au hour at lunch, and th* wLole work (inclu.liug two summary o.ses), was disposed of by -4 o'clock. Mr S.. M. tiaker, clerk of court, Foxton, assisted dr Fosrter in the clerical work. The prisoners were convoyed to Wanganui umler a strong guard by tlia train leaving Pulnu'Mtou at G o'elook.
