The ss Jane Douglas left Wellington at 5 p.m. on Monday, and reached Foxton ■wharf at 10 a.m. next day. She started for Wellington und Southern ports at 11 a.m, on Wednesday. The Stormbird may be expected to-day from Wellington. The Mary Oyilvio, schooner, is loading at Greymouth with coal for t'oxton. Captain Frederick is having a steamer built at Emerald Hill, Melbourne, which he intends to exhibit at the Sydney Exhibition. She will be the smallest ocean steamer afloat, being only 26 feet iv length over all, with good beam, and three feet draught ; copper-bottomed, and dome- decked, with slide forward to allow the navigator to go below. Her namo is to be The Little Eastern. The boiler will be capable of standing a test of 120lbs to the square inch. Her first trip will be from Melbourne to Sydney, which Captain Frederick expects to accomplish in about a f ortniglit from the day of starting, and so confident is ho of being successful in. bringing his little steamboat into the waters of Port Jackson that he refuses to take even a boy with him on his perilous venture. He expects to start in August.
