Wellington, Friday. There has been no noticeable improvement in trade during the past week, and in tho face of the present stagnati a prevailing in every branch of business, it is impossible to write cheerfully, although many are of opinion that we have seen the worst. Prices of all imported goods remain low, and in effecting pales cash buyers expect, and are entitled to special concessions, which leave little or no profit to the seller. Stocks generally are greatly in excess. Hennessy's case brandy being almost the only article that ''s scarce, to the advantage of other brands ; holders quote 34s 6d to 35s 6d per case. Dunville's whisky (in case) is also rather low. in stock. In colonial produce there is no change from last week's rates, with the exception of Canterbury and Oamaru flour, which holders have advanced 2. is per ton. We quote best brands at £11 to £12 10s, although wo hardly think the advance can be sustained in the face of the large stocks on hand. Butter in kegs .continues in little demand except for local trade, and is worth lOd to lid per lb for prime. Cheese dull, at TA to 8d per lb. Bacon and hams are lightly stocked, and the new cure is worth 8d to 9dper lb. Oats are fairly stocked at 2s 9d to 3s per bushel ; 750 sacks were sold by Mr G-. Thomas on Friday last for net cash at 2s 43 to 2s 8d per bushel, but the samples were only a medium quality. Maize dull, at 4s ; bran, lOd ; pollard £6 10s per ton; potatoes, 105s to 110s per ton. — N.Z. Times. (per cable.) Sydjjef, Friday. Hennessy's case brandy,32s 6d ; quartercask, 9s per gallon. Diamond kerosene, Is 6d; Devoe's Is 9d. Patna rice, £23 per ton ; New Zealand wheat, 4s 3d : oats, 2s 6d per bushel ; maize 2s 7d ; Eaven's twist tobacco, Is 7d per lb ; Sugar Company's No. 1, J&25 ; candles, D.R.J.S., 8d to B£d ; other lines unchanged.
