Fatal Sattjedays.— Tha Globe* under the heading of " Fatal Saturdays, " publishes thefollo wing rather remarkable paragraph — 'Ihe dea^h of the lamented Princess Hesse on the same day of the rronth and week as that of the Prince Consort, attracted general attention , but it may not have been so universally observed that Saturday has been a fatal day to the Royal Family for the last 167 years :— William 111 died Saiurday, March 17, 1702 ; Queen Anne died Saturday, August 1, 1714; George I died Saturday, June 10, 1727; George II died Saturday, October 26, 1760 ; George 111 died Saturday, January 29, 18U0 ; George IV died Saturday, June 2S, 1830; the Duchess of Kent died Saturday, March 16, 1861; Prince Consort died Saturday, December 14, 1861 ; Princess Alice died Saturday, December 14, 1879. .Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress" has had a larger circulation in England thac any book except the Bible. # Next in pupu- - larity would probably rank " Eobinsor Crußoe." After that would probably rank the « Waverley Novels." Nevertheless there are signs that all of these old classics of the people are wanted in popularity. Shakespeare alone steadily grows according to the test of editions, and this fact is itseH the highest proof of the sublime genius oi this mysterious man. A monument to the memory of Mendels sohn is being elected by subscription al Leipzig. Up to tho present time the sum collected reaches only 18,000 marks.
