BALLANCERESIGNED. (per press agency.) Wellington, Monday, noon. A rupture has taken place in the Cabinet. The Hon Mr Ballance resigned this morning. The reason given is, a difference between Sir George Grey and Mr Ballance. - Welling/on, 7 p.m. The Hon J Hallance sent in his resignation of his office as Minister this morning, as being under present circumstanoes best for the Colony and his colleagues It appears a violent altercation occurred in the Cabinet on Saturday between the Premier and Treasurer, respecting questions of departmental administration, the Native Minister being present. It is reported that the New Zealand Herald had an extra oub on Saturday morning announcing Ballance's resignation an hour before any words between Grey and Ballance occurred. It is thought probable Moss will be appointed Treasurer. 7.30 p.m. Ballance's resignation is accepted. Macandrew sends in his resignation of office to-morrow, and it is stated Sheehan and Fisher do likesvisa in a day or two. It is understood Government have made provision against any attempt to ous^tnem before their policy in ite^etSmplete form is unfolded to the country, by incorporating the whole of it in the Governor's Speech at the opening of Parliament. The speech is already written. There is no longer any doubt that ■ O'Rorke will be elected Speaker without opposition. [from a correspondent,] AVellington, 7.15 pm. Groat excitement was this morning created by rumors of serious dissensions in the Cabinet. The excitement was increased on publication of the Evening Chronicle, which gives a full report of the altercation between the Premier and Mr Ballance. The former ordered the Colonial Treasurer to leave his room. Mr Ballance stated that he would not leave until it suited him, on which Sir Georgo threatened to obtain a messenger for the purpose of having Ballance removed. Ballance resigned to-day. There is possibility of further resignations.
