OTAKI HIGHWAYS BOARD.

j Monday, Juue 23, 1879. The Board mot at the office, at 2 p.m. Present — Messrs Sitncox (chairman), A. J. Hadfield., J. Kebbell, J. M'Crae, W. Udy, and Dr. Hewson. The minutes of the last meeting were confirmed. A letter was read from Mr J. Death, complaining of the want of a road. After consideration, it was proposed by Mr Kebbell, and seconded by Mr Simcox — " That tho Chairman, Dr llewsou, and Mr M'Crae inquire into the complaint of Mr Death, as to the state of th© hyeroad leading to his property, and as to the ownership of the road, whether claimed by the trustees of the mission property, or by any others, and repoit at the next meeting. The report of the Committee ap. pointed by the Board to enquire into the alleged encroachment on the [ road running from the village of Hadfield to the Otaki River was read as follows:— "As no authenticated plans are at hand, and as those produced are conflicting, and as unfortunately the parties most likely to give the desired information are at present absent from the County, I therefore propose that the matter stand over until the Committee is in a position to give a final and reliable report. A. J. Hadfield, Chairman of Committee." — Proposed by Mr Kebbell, seconded by Dr. llewson, That the report of the Road Committee be - ; . adopted. Carried. Proposed by Mr M'Crae, seconded by Mr Hadfield, That the sum of <£33 5s be paid to the contractors for the road leading from Market Square to Laugley's corner, whenever they have completed their contract to the ; satisf action of the Warden. Carried. Proposed by Mr Kebbell, seconded by Mr Hadfield, That the Clerk be authorised to obtain a cord of firewood for the use of the Board room. Carried. The next meeting «f the Hoard v will be held on Monday, the 21st July, at 2 o'clock p.m.
