Our Wellington Correspondent furnishes an important item of information, to the effect that the Foxton- Wellington Railway is about to be started at the Wellington end, and that tenders will shortly be called for the construction of a mile of the line. In these days, we must be thankful fot small mercies, and when our correspondent's report is realised, it will be a source of satisfaction to know that' the first step has betn taken with a view to the ultimate union of the West Coast with Wellington. When through connection is attained, it cannot but exercise o most important effect upon the Manawatu County, and we therefore hail with satisfaction the promise of a speedy commencement of the work.
