THE Manamatu Herald. TUESDAY, JUNE 3, 1879.
We earnestly hope the trial survey of the Wellington line from Palmerston. to the "point of divergence" -will be pushed on as rapidly as possible. The survey from Foxton is completed, and directly that from Palmerston is done, the respective merits of the two lines can be compared and the point of contact decided upon. If Parliament is to be asked to repeal the schedule of "The Railway Construction Act, 1878," which fixes the point of contact at Foxton, it will require some data upon -which to form an opinion, and the trial survey plans from Palmerston will be necessary tb a de" cision. On behalf of the whole lower portion of the County of Manawatu, we protest against the question being hung up for another year, pending the completion of a minute survey from Palmerston. A survey sufficient for the requirements of a Parliamentary investigation could be made before the Assembly meets, and we hope the authorities will see the nesessity of getting preliminaries so far advanced that a decision can be arrived at during the session.
