THE FOXTON-SANSON RAILWAY.
In our advertising columns, a notice regarding the Foxton-Saudon Railway Company is published, as required by "The District Railways Act, 1877." It is to the effect that copies of the plan of the proposed lino, and the book of reference, have been deposited at various places in the district. As it is of importance that the fullest publicity should be given to the various particulars relating to the taking of the votes upon the railway, we quote the following clauses from the Act : — 12. Within sixty days from the deposit of the plan and book of reference the votes of the ratepayers and owners of property within the proposed distr'ot shall be taken, as hereinafter provided, and if a majoiity of the whole body of ratepayers and owners of property representing more than one-half of the valu6 of the rateable property shall consent to the construction of the proposed railway, then the Governor may, if he shall think fit, declare his approval of the construction of such railway.
As regards the question, who are allowed to vote, subsection & of section 14 contains a very important provision, as follows : — (4). No ratepayer who is such ratepayer by virtue of his being a tenant or occupier of any land or premises iv respeot of which he olaims to vote under this Act shall be entitled so to vote unless such land or premises is held upon a lease which shall at the time of the vote being taken have not less than three years to ran, or of which he has been in possession for three years or upwards next before the, date of voting.
