London, 2nd May. Arrived, at Gravesend—Somersetshire. Tenders for the New South Wales Loan amounted to £7,860,900, above twoxthirds, at ninety-eight and oneeighth. Berry declares his speech was in* correctly reported. The mission was altogether a success, the object being to obtain the influence of the British Government, in order to avert a renewal of complications between Victoria and the Home Government. Sydney, Monday. A heavy southerly gale has been blowing since Saturday. The schooner Margaret Ghessel has been wrecked at Newcastle. All the crew were saved. Captain Townsend was drowned. Later* Arrived — Tararua. The weather is improving, but unusually cold. Snow is falling in the western and southern districts. Calcutta, 3rd May. Yakoob Khan is proceeding to the British camp to interview the Indian authorities. A large retinue will accompany him. The aspect of affairs is re- assuring. 4th May. The district of Bedakshan has revolted from Aflghan authority. Mohammed Ibraham, with the
dignitaries of Zakdahels, has given, in his submission to the British Go* vernment. Melbobene, Monday The Hon Major W. Collarn Smith has been unwell since Thursday, and has now become seriously ill.
