FOXTON LOCAL BOARD.
A meeting of the above Board was held at the new office of the Board (Mr Palmer's shop), on Friday moaning last. Present — Messrs Crowther (chairman), Cook, Easton, and Loudon. The minutes of the previous meeting having been confirmed, the correspondence read. Mr J. T. Stewart having written regarding some excavations on No 1 Line, Mr Loudon proposed, and Mr Cook seconded, — " That Mr Stewart be informed that the Board's Engineer will inspect and report upon the same at the next meeting, when he will be informed of the Board's decision with regard to it." Carried. It was proposed by Mr Loudon, and seconded by Mr Cook, that Mr R. G. Palmer's offer of iB per annum be accepted for use of office. A letter was read from Mr Feck, complainof damage sustained by water running through his land on No 1 line, and asking compensation. After some discussion it was proposed by Mr Loudon, and seconded by Mr Cook, that Mr Feck be informed that the Board will construct a box drain for the purpose of carrying off the water complained of as soon as funds are available ; and also to inform him that the Board consider his demand for damage excessive, bat that as a liquidation in full of his claim, the Board are willing to award him the sum of £o for damage bus ained. One offer, from Mr E. Brown, to clean out and deepen about 13 chains of drain on No 1 Lino for £3, was accepted, the work to be done to the satisfaction of ihe Board's Engineer. It wus proposed by Mr Loudon, and seconded by Mr Crowther, that Messrs Cook, Crowther and Easton, be authorised to countersign cheques. Permission was given to Mr Baker to cut a drain from section 313 to section 314, across the road, at his own expense. Proposed by Mr London, seconded by Mr Cook, and carried — " That the Engineer be instructed to prepare specifications and call for tenders for the forinatim of six chains on river bank road, opposite Mr J, T. Stewart's property." Proposed by Mr Crowther, seconded by Mr Easton — " That the Engineer be instructed to have the footpath formed, kerbed, and gravelled, opposite section 4'J on the Avenue Road, provided that the coat does not exceed £10. Proponed by Mr Loudon, seconded by Mr Cook — " That notice be given that a rate of Is in the £ be levied within the Foxton Local Board District, in accordance with clause 40 of the ' Hating Act, 187 6.' " Proposed by Mr Loudon, seconded by Mr Crowther — lC That notice be given that all defaulting ratepayers in the Local Board district will be sued for rates due, unless paid within fourteen days from date of notice ; to be given by advertisement in the Maxawatit Herald." Proposed by Mr Loudon, seconded by Mr Cook — " That the Chairman be requested to communicate with the Minister of Public Works, asking him to be good enough to call for tenders as early as possible for the works promised, viz., the deviation of the Foxton- Wanganui Railwuy Line, and the erection of Goods Sheds at the wharf, &c." Accounts amounting to £102 5s Id were passed for payment. This concluded the business, and the Board adjourned until May 21, at 3 p.m.
