Prior, Esq, Sanson This Company is formed for the purpose of constructing, under the provisions of " The District Railways Act," a Line of Railway from Carnarvon Junction to Sanson, a distance of thirteen miles sixty chains. The District through which the proposed Line will run, is admitted by all competent judges to be some of the finest Agricultural Land in the Colony, large quantities being annually broken up ; there being at the present time a considerable area under crop. There is also extensive Bush Land in the vicinity of the proposed Line, containing first - class Timber. The Line will open direct communication with tho Port of Foxton, and ultimately extend to Greatford Station on the Wanganui Railway, lessening the distance from Foxton to Wan* ganui by twenty two miles, and will doubtless become a portiou of the Main Line from Wellington to the North. The Promoters have confidence in predicting that the proposed Line will be a lucrative investment, as, outside Stock and Timber, large quantities of Grain and other Produce must pass over it. The Passenger Traffic would also be considerable, and when the extension to the Greatford Station is formed, by far the larger portiou, if not the whole, of the through traffic would use the Line j it making a difference of five shillings and sixpence in a single Ist class, and three shillings and eightpence 2nd class ticket from Wanganui to Foxton, besides a saving in time of two hours. The Line beiag once formed, the quantity of land at present annually broken up would be greatly increased through the facilities afforded by railway transit for grain. The greater portion of the country through which the proposed line runs is settled upon by a thrifty population. The Promoters have little doubt that the working of the Line will realize a handsome profit, beside the security of the guarantee of 7 per cent, under " The District Railways Act." . Tho Line will be formed upon a portion of the road the whole of the distance (about 13 miles) ; conse^ quently no land with the exception of that required for Stations will be purchased, thus enabling the Company to construct the Line upon exceptionally favorable terms-; in fact, little or no cost will be incurred besides the formation, which will be of the easiest, there being no cuttings of any im» portance necessary. The Government having ordered a large quantity of rails from England at a low rate, have signified their willingness to supply the Company with superior rails for the proposed Line at actual cost price, which offer the Directors have resolved to accept. The Government have undertaken to work the Line upon terms sufficient to cover working expenses and wear and tear of Rolling Stock. Shares have already been subscribed for in the District. It is the intention of the Provisional Directors to close the list on tho Early application should therefore be made by intending shareholders.
