It is difficult to conceive what occult influence prompts Dr Rockstrow, on every possible occasion, co endeavour to trample the Foxton Local Board in the dirt, A short time ago he stated to the County Council that there was no Local Board at Foxton, and only a few days afterwards gave the lie to his statement by sitting on the Board as a member. On Wednesday last,

the Judge of the Assessment Court, Mr Ward, made sortie remarks which infereiitially reflected upon the want of cave displayed by the Poxton Local Board Prompted by his evil genius Dr Rockstrow sprang to his feefi directly Air Ward closed his remarks, and asserted the error was committed under the old u'oard > that since then they had resigned in a body, and that now a ntew Board sits in their place. Mr .Thyhne very properly contradicted flat'y these assertions at once, and Dr Rockstiow had the unpleasant satisfaction of having his assertions challenged in the local Temple of Justice by a J P., and before the Kesident Magistrate, at whose side tlia soi-disant medico so delights to s'c. The facts are, that two members out of five resigned between the appointment of Mr Moinet and the first sitting of the Assessment Court. The gentlemen who took their place wore Mr Theophilus Jfiaston, and Doctor John Frederick Rockstrow. Perhaps Dr Eockstrow looks upon any local body as lacking a soul until it re 1 ceives himself as its source of life. Only upon that assumption can we reconcile his action in the two instances referred to. Before he became a member he stated there was no Local Board, and now he says that a new Board has come into existence since he joined it.
