"Wellington, Feb 9 The Typographical Association have notified to the master printers of the city that after the loth of February compositors will demand Is 3s per thousand for piece work, three pounds six shillings per week ( on "stab," and Is 9d per hour overtime. The Association have considered this step necessary in conse* quence of the high rate of house rent and living here. Dr Collins accompanies Lady Normanby to Melbourne as her medical adviser. Messrs Cooper and Roberts, the commissioners appointed to inquire into certain charges made against Mr Charles Broad, R.M. at Westport, by the Sergeant of Police, have moved that none of the charges brought against Mr Broad have been proved, and that his character is entirely freed from any imputation either of habitual intemperance or of having been intoxicated upon any of the particular occasions alleged by the Sergeant of police. It is notified in the Gazette that the time appointed for making valuations under the Land Tax Act has teen extended from the first of February until the 28th. The writ summoning Patrick Dig* nan to the Legislative Council has been gazetted. Saunterer has been sold for £200 by Knight, of Tauherinikau. Danebury, Camballo and Lady Ellen were putup to auction this afternoon, but there being . no purchasers, were withdrawn. There is a movement on foot to open the Athenaeum on Sunday.
