FIRE AT SANDON.
EIGHT - ROOMED HOUjE DESTROYED. ! | We regret, to record a fire on Wil- | son's Line, Hutt Small Farm Block, Sandon, on Monday evening last, by which a house belonging to Me Chas. Edwards, was totally destroyed. It \ appears the house was not i-egularly occupied, Mr Edwards having removed to a new buildiug on another part of his land, but the harvestei*s had been for some days living there- On the j day in question they had been having tea in the house, after which a number of them left to go home, when about an hour after — that is, about G p.m. — the fire was seen to have broken out, and the buildiug, which consisted of eight rooms, was totally destroyed. The origin of the fire is not known, but it is just possible the fire may not have been put entirely out, and some embers have been blown out on to the floor, causing it to ignite. We believe however, Mrs Edwards, who was last in the building, asserts that she was particularly careful to see that the fire was thoroughly extinguished. The property wus insured in the Victoria Office for £300. An inqatsfc into the origin of the fire will probably be held. A quantity of saddlery, &c, belonging to the harvesters, was burnt.
