THE SCHOONER PELICAN ASHORE.
■-+. _ On Friday last, as the schooner Pelican was entering the Manawatu river, she touched on tho bar, and just then the wind dying away, three heavy seas struck her, and she was carried on to the North Spit, about the same place as the Kate Moynihau wont ashore. Captain Monroe at once camo to town and commuuicated with the owner, Captain Williams, of Wellington. On Saturday, an anchor was got out. and it is intended to lighten her by discharging a quantity of the coals, when it is expected sho will easily be got into the river. She is inside the bar. 'Die Pelican comes from Greymouth with a cargo of coals for the Railway Department She is insured for £1000 in the National. Latest.— The schooner has only about her own length to go to reach the channel. There aro aro two anchors out, and it is hoped she may be got off on this morning's tide.
