(The following telegrams reached or * office after midnights • Dreadful Tramway Accident. Man crushed to death. WEixiKGToy, Nonday, 7.10. J. Luhning, tobacconist, Lambton Quay, was accidentally killed on the Tramway line this afternoon while the train was running up Cuba-street at about ten miles an hour. Deceased jumped out without ringing the boll to slacken speed, but after jumpinsr he still held on to tho guard rail, and, being dragged, fell backwards between the two carriages. The poor fellow was run over, mangled, and torn in a most frightful manner, death Icing iustantaneous. No blame is attached to anyone but deceased. A dangerous practice prevails of jumping out of tho carriages while iv motion. It is understood the Surveyor General has mudo serious charges, amounting to disobedience and insubordination, against Air Henry Jackson, chief surveyor of the Provincial District of Wellington. He. absolutely denies the charges, and a court of enquiry has been appointed to investigate the matter. The court consists of Messrs Fountain, secretary of justice, \t_. Gray, secretary postal department, and Hamerton, seoretary of stamps. Jane Douglas sailed. The Jano Douglas sailed for Fiocton at 6 p.m. Passengers — Mr and Mrs Johnson, Mrs Thornhill, Messrs Oaleutt and Smith.
