CONCEPT.
The Choral Society gave a conceit at the Foxton Public Hall on Wednesday evening (regatta day). The actendance was large, and the audience thoroughly appreciative. Ths number of performers was smaller tfian usual, owing to seveia! being; absent through indisposition and other causes. "Love in absence," and " Bid me discourse," in the Crst part, were given in five style, the latter being encoied, and "Thy face," vras sung in response. "I dreamt that dwelt," was sung with spirit and efi^ feet, "Little Sweetheart, come and kiss me," beiug given for the encore. •'The British Lion," and "Sainted Mother," (duet) wore each encored. The latter was the gem of the evening, the vocalisation being perfect. " Why do summer roses fade," was given with great pathos, and was thoroughly enjoyed. Want of space precludes a long notice on the present occasion, but speaking generally, we may say the performers (both vocal and instrumental), acquitted thems selves well, and the audience enjoyed a very pleasant evening, After tho conceit, a dance was arranged, and was kept up for several hours.
