[ WKiiMxaxox-Foxrox bailway. > Mr G-.nver give notice of motion for next ■ meeting as follows : — '• That in the opinion l of this Council the present nnd futuro in- * tero3ts of t!ie Manawau Cjuuty would be * best consulted by bringing t>io 'Wellington » Railtray into tho port of Foxton."' In giving notice, Mr (Jowor said lie > thought it only right to mention the rea--1 sons why he brought it ibnvu.d, without discussing the question itself. Tlireo members of th-4 Council, including the Chiirmun, had been appointed a deputation to inter- " view Ihu Minister of Public Work*, to urge 1 that the railway should go to Pulmcnton. [ Neither the Chairman or inuinbe/d could f divest thorn ifclves of their poiitio i us Councillors, and ho thought it only right if three ' gare their opinion one way, tho remainder 1 should have the opportunity of giving ' theira. Me considered tho matter a County \ question of vital importance, and was inov ' ing in pursuance of a pledge to his L constituents. It was of great importance the railway should go to the right place. He j was not prepared to say then why toxton was the right place— thnt lie would leave for ( next meeting ; but taking the co. respondent , and dpeouhud at tho Puluicrston meeting, it I appoared to bo a fight of tho Upper District , against the port and town of Foxton. The position then, would be, that three Ridings \ — Taouui, Manchester, and Kiwiteu — rcturaiug- four meinbere, were in favor of ' Paimerstoi), whiUt four i>nportant ltidings— [ Awahou, Kawa Kawn, Horowhenua, and ; Oroua — returning five members, wore for i Foxton. . These facts would snow the Goj Tomment that something more was involved j than the pcrdonal feelings of Councillors. It > was the largest part of tho Comity claiming its rights ugainst tho other. iJo was prei purocl, when the diacuision arose, to giro t abundance of proof of the strength of the i claims of the four Hidings mentionoJ. [ Notice of motion given. ) NEXT HBETINQ. The next meeting of the Council will be held on Wednesday, 12th February.
