The Foxton Lojal Board, at their meeting . ; on Wednesday, acted, Ave think oriouoously, ! regarding tho tenders. Tho advertisement invited tenders for valuer to tho Board. ; Messrs 'thymic, Linton, & Co., sent in a | ! tender for £'20, whilst Mr Moinct offered to i act as valuer, and also to superintend the works required by tho Board, draw plans, , ; <S:e., for the sum of £-10. This tender was I accepted. Now, it uppears to ns, that bo- , fore tho Board took any such .action, thoy | should have allo.vcd all the tenderers to j compete for the work. If the board do ; not keep to the announcements they make, j the public will place no reliance upon their ' notices. It would be quite wrong, for inj stance, for the Board to call fur lenders for I making a footj ath, and then give the work i to pome tenderer who offered to make foot- ' paths and construct culverts too. They i are bound to keep to the tenders they as ! c ' for. Mr Alohict no doubt in very suitable 1 for the position of Engineer, and Supcrin- ' tendent of the work.-:. Upon this we have j nothing to say. But Ave do isay that the j Hoard should keep to the clear line of their ! public notifications, to prevent any sus» i piciou that ad things arc not con'eur do : rote.
