MANAWATU HIGHWAYS BOARD.
I ♦ A meeting of the Manawatu Highways Board was helj at the office, Palraorston, on Friday last, Decerabor 13. Present— ! Messrs Dalryinple (chairman), Bruce, Jl'Ewftn, Dawson, M'JCenzie, M'i'herson, i and Farmer. i The miuutes of previous meoting were read and confirmed. The crelii balance was reported to be £60 12s 2d. A letter was read from Mr J. A. Perreau asking tho Board to cut away tho gorse ion the Motoa ro.irl, Foxton. The matter [ vvus ordered to stand over, as also was a i letter from Mr J Saunders, asking tho j Board to repair pirt of (ho simt road. I Mr R. E. Pearco, of Carnarvon, wrote ! asking the Board to fall the bush on the road line near his proparty. Ordered to stand over. The Chairman of the Otaki Highways ; Board wrote, asking the Board to revise tho accounts between tho two bodies, and stating that Mr J. Daviea would act on bohiilf of tho Otaki Board. The Secretary was rjquosted to appoint a day to confer with Mr Davies. In complianco with a request from the Land Tax Commissioner, it was resolved to forward a copy of the Board's last valuation to the Land Tax Department. A letter was road from the Manchester Highways Board, stating that th&y were not at proseni able to undertake the work upon Henderson'* line, Btoney Creek District. A petition was read from W. Forgusson aud others, asking the Board to repair a road from the Rangitikei River to Kakariki. It was resolved to do the work, the Engineer being instructed to visit and report upon it. i At the previous meeting of the Board a j petition had boen presented from settlers upon the Motoa Road, asking that tho repairing and construction of tho road might bo proceeded with, and the matter had been held over. Mr Gower now attended, and urged the requirements of tho road upon tho Board. The Eugineer was requested to visit and report upon tho matter for next meeting. Mr M'Konzie waited upon the Hoard, and requested that the road near hid property might ba immediately repaired. Upon tho motion of Mr Dawson, it was resolved th:it tho Kngmeer report upon tho matter. Messrs Staco and Reid attended, and requested the Bo.i rd to erect a bridge over a crock crossing the rotul to their property, near Stoney Creek. After fully discussing tho matter, tho Board offered them £ for £ subscribed, but this not being accepted, the Engineer was requested to report upon the matter, and tie Board will then reconsider tho question. It was resolved to write to tho County Council, asking that body to forward ut once all nnneys voted to the Highways i Board. The Chairman was requested to write to tho Govomment, asking them to huud over the refund upon the sale of land on deferred paymon's. Upon the motion of Mr Dawson, it was lesolrcd to nsk tho Minister of Public Works for free passes for the mombers. Mr Dawson proposed, and it was carried, that plans be prepared for the line of road from M'Donald's to Waitoi (Carnarvon), and submitted to next meeting. Tenders aro to bo called for work on Skerman's line, Rangitikei. The Board resolved that members shall be informed of the meetings by postcards iv future. Tho next meeting of the Board takes place on January 10.
