A OBIKVANCi'.

■ ■ , — ■■ v ■ TO THK nUTOU oi" 1 THK M.V AWATU HKIiAI.D. Sin,— i should feel obliged if you would in your columns kindly inform me what remedy I have for the following injustice:— On Monday afternoon last Constable Cootes came to my house and produced his search warrant in order to search my house on behalf of the Insurance agents of the ship Felix Stowe, lately wrecked on the Otaki beach, for 7 riHes and 2 bolts canvas. Now, Mr KdiU.r, I cannot but think this must hav<J been don« in a malicious spirit, for after the part I took during that ship's stranding, and well known as I am is it likely that \i would endeavour to conceal any thing I have mentioned above? A number of things certainly were left at my place belonging to the people of tho Bhip, and afterwards taken away, and now after such a length of time hast elapsed since the vessel went ashore Sir Cootes obtains a warrant to search for concealed goods on behalf of the Insurance Company, when to my certain knowlege the ship was sold Borne time ago by tluet Company, and I always fancied that when that was done thair title ceased. Two of the present owners are in Otaki, and ono served «he warrant. Why on behalf of tho Insurance, I ask ? Kmdly give me your advico on the subject, for at Ihe time of this occurrence 1 had a numbei of people staying in my house— Judge Heale, Mr Grey, and several others of the Native Land Court, and such a thing as the above is calculated to do me a grievous injury to myself and family especially, when the parties had no ground for suspicion. Have I any remedy at law ? I am, &c , Wm. Langi.ey. Otaki, 6th December, 1878. | [We wculd advise Mr Langloy to! take a legal opinion ©n tho subject. — Ed. M. Herald ] i
