CONSTABULARY ESTIMATES
According to the Government Eetimates no material alteration in the pay or number of tho constabulary is proposed. The total cost for the year ia estimated at £137,774, rfainjst^tJ^.fi'ir) last year. A Com* cssioner and Injecting Superin--11 dent with salaries amounting to £1 300, are to be abolished, and it is proposed Xo appoint an Undersecretary at a salary of £400. A special allowance of £800 is to be made to the cfticeis, sergeants and constables on the West Coa&t of this Jal&nd. The inspection of weights
an 1 moasmes, for which a vote of £'tOO was agreed to last year, and only £25 was oxpended, is taken out of tho department. It is proposed to effect a saviug on rations fur [Hhoner3, fuel and light, of £500. <o vute is proposed for rewards, for which last year £100 was voted and £272 spent.
