Her bottom^^^^^^^^^^H uninj ured . k THE CROWN J^^^^^H Under provincial i^^^^^^^l^^H Crown lands of the merly dealt with by Provincial (xovernmeiH^^^^^Hb jurisdiction they' were ■BB^^l~ one of the results of abolition they aro now under General Government control. An able and interesting report has recently been issued from the Crown Lands department, giving a comprehensive view of the operations upon Crown i.ands throughout the entire colon}. Prom this paper we glean that the total area or the colony is something over 64 millions acres, of which 13,090,590 acres have been sold or otherwise absolutely disposed of since the foundation of the colony up to the 30th June last, lhe total area open for selection at that date wa~ 14,892,486 acres, with a further area of 1 9,876,847 acres available for future disposal, but at present withheld from sale by land boards or held under lease. There is, farther, about 16,500,000 acres of native territory and land sold by natives to Europeans. The total of cash received for the 13,090,590 acres disposed of was £10,450,228, about one half of which was obtained in the Provincial District, of Cafciefbury. The sales lot the year endiug9M)|^| Jnne latt comprised 467 acr^^^^H town lands, 2,023 acres of. q^H^| ban and 828,337 acres of ruraOJlß^ for which there was received an a? gregate of £1,450,251 in cash, and £27,229 in scrip. Of this the Canterbury Provincial District represents no less than 554,169 acres of rural and 95 acres of town lands, re alising a total of £1,123,423, which ti will be seen is a very large portion of the whole.
