"We sincerely hope the AgricwU tural Association will be heartilysupported by the settlers in the Upper Manawatu district. From the first, the wish of the promoters has been to.niorge any Lscal interests ii> the general good of the jiroposed' Society. Conscious that any attempt to start a Foxton Association would be a failure, the promoters have all along- attempted to creato a general interest in the affair, and in the list of viee-presideuts elected, all the towns iu the district are represented. Yet we have a feeling that the matter has not been taken up witli that enthusiasm at the other end of the district, Avhich we hoped to have teen, and we fear lest there should be a lack of unanimity between the various districts at the start. \.n idea has got afloat, we understand, amongst our frionds in the Upper District, that it is all "cut and dried/' at Foxton that the first show is to be held here, and hence a feel* ing has been created that Foxton was attempting to claim the lion's share. This idea we desire to give an emphatic denial. On the contrary, the promoters of the Association are perfectly willing to see the first show held at either Palmevston or Feilding. With this we heartily agree. Palmerston is central to the whole district ; stock could easily be trans* ported thither from any point, and the very fact of the show being held there, would bo the best possible guarantee of the district character of the Association. Disunion or jealousy at the start will enervate the Society, and for the good of the whole district, we hope that those at the helm will do everything possible to avoid a collision of interests.
