The shipping trade of Foxton is likely to be increased considerably by a largo portion of the Marton trade passing through here, instead of to Wanganui. A few evenings' ago, observing a quantity of packages being stowed away in the rail-

way trucks at Foxton, ve made j enquiiios ns to their destination, and \ found that thoy woro being prepared for despuich by the early train to Martini next day. We hear that the Marton trade via Foxton luis considerably increased lately. kvery steamer iroin Wellington brings a number of packages to Foxtou for storekeepers in Kdugitikei. A business man in Marton informed us the other day that he frequently receives his goods via Foxton before the invoices reached him through Wan* ganui. This trade is capable of being fostered to a great extent, and it is quite probable that Foxton will soon become the recognised port of the whole Eaugitikei District in addition to the Manawatu. The wharf and railway officials at Foxton, by their good management hitherto in forwarding the goods on at the earliest possible moment, have no doubt caused a part of the Kangitikei trade to puss through this port; and as Foxton may be at present on its trial against Wanganui for sx^eedj delivery as a shipping port, we trust Messrs Gibs n and Hickson will continue to use their boat efforts to promote the trade.
