Fourteen horses ran for the St. Leger. The raco was won by four lengrtis. Roumania hesitates to occupy the Dobrudscha, and apprehends {resistance from the inhabitants. Some strongly worded despatches have been sent to St. Petersburg by the British Government towards Afghanistan. A conspiracy of a serious nature has been discovered at Seville, in Spain. The object of the conspiracy was the overthrow of the monarchy. Russia has advised Servia not to disarm, and continues payment of a subsidy. Berlin, 11th September. Tho Imperial Department of Justice is showing more toleration towards the Socialists. London, September 12. The seat of the Duke of Aberoorn, in South Wales has been injured by are. All officers and men in the two ser vices now absent on leave have been recalled by .the War Department as a measure of precaution. London, Sept. 13. A disastrous fire occurred at Blackburn, destroying property worth half a million sterling. Sydney, Friday. Flour £11 to £12 10s ; wheat, 5s 3d to 5s 4d, j New Zealand do, 4s lOd. Brisbane, Sept. 12. Chester, the Government agent,telegraphs :_« Crossed New Guinea. Found six rivevs and a number oi villages. People are cannibals, but friendly. Country fertile. Discovered what is believed to be ebony." Sydney. The Johanna Czar, which has ar* rived from New Britain, reports that five Wosleyan native missionaries have been massacred by Bush na* tives, ten miles from the Malicolo coast. The bodies were afterwards cooked and eaten. Tho Eev. MiBrown, in conjunction with the traders and coast natives, attacked the tribe to which the murderers be* longed, and a severe fight, lasting the whole day, ensued. Between 70 and 100 were killed, and a large number, were wounded. Another attack on the Mission station was made by the Duke of York Islanders. The German traders retaliated, killing throe natives. Frank ICerwin, a Sydney trader, and two other Europeans were murdered in this attack.
