New Advertisements. served in the collection of rates gejierally. Ample power is given to tho 'Collector by "The Hating Act, 1B70," to ensure due collection of sums payable to the Board. A statement furnished by the Bank at the request of the late Treasurer to the Board shows that a sum of £72 Os 6d was collected sub* sequent to the 31st_March last. The items composing thin amount do not appear to have been entered in any cash book of the Board, and the auditor was unable to ascertain upon enquiry what the various sums were composed of. Under sll the circumstances stated, the Auditor regrets to report that he is unable to append his certificate to the accounts of this Board. The Clerk to the Board has been requested to make out proper accounts of all transactions— the items appearing in them to be supported by documentary evidence. When such accounts may be sup', plied, they will have the attention ot the Auditor. A proper system of accounts and vouchers has been drawn up for the guidance of the Board. Those accounts and documents will, if kept duly written up in accordance with instructions given, obviate for the future a repetition of the undesirable state of affairs which has hitherto obtained in respect of tne matters referred to.
