MacARTHUR MAY STAND

NEW YORK, Jan. 22.

A petition to place the name of General MacArthur in the Republican Presidential preference primary to be held in Illinois on April 8 was filed in Illinois today. Petitions were also filed entering Mr Harold Stassen in the Republican Presidential race and Senator Brien McMahon and Senator Estes Kefauver in the Democratic race. Today was the final day for filing petitions in Illinois. Mr Stassen is the only one of the four who has definitely announced that he is a candidate for the Presidency. Major- General Courtney Whitney, spokesman for General MacArthur, said the general's name had been entered without authority.
