TRAINS APPRGACHING ON SAME LINE.

PA.

CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 28.

Through a rnisunderstanding two trains travelling in opposite directions were steaming towards each cther on the Little River line on Monday afternoon and were pulled up a few hundred yards apart. The trains involved were the second excursion train for the city from the Motukarara races and the afternoon train from Christchurch to Little River. The Little River train had apparently left Lincoln station after the departure of the race train from Motukarara, although the line is a single oue. When within 300 yards of each other the trains were halted, although they pulled a little closer before the Little River train was shunted back to Lincoln. "There was a rnisunderstanding on Ihe part of certain members of the staff. The matter is being dealt with by the Department," commented the District •Traffic Manager of Railways, Mr G. H. McLean, when questioned about the incident.
