RATION BOOKS

5000 STILL AWAIT ISSUE. POSITION IN BLENHEIM. Yesterday 983 new ration books were issued in Blenheim, plus 202 children's cards. This leaves ap--proximately 5000 still to be issued in the three and a half days remaining. For the benefit of Blenheim's still unresponsive section of the great British public, the Rationing Office will be open between 7 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. on Friday. The reason for fixing definite times for the issue of books, is of course, the shortage of staff in these war days, the Post Office having been hit as badly as anyone else and yet having many extra duties thrust upon it. After Saturday the staff required for the issue of ration books will be dispersed to other urgent. work that has had to wait meantime.
