INCREASE GRANTED

PUBLIC SERVICE SALARIES. An increase in the minimum salary for married men in the Public Service as from September 1, 1942, is reported in the latest issue of the Public Service Journal. The decision is reported to be the result of representations by the central committee of the eombined services organisation to the Govefnment to provide an increase to lower-paid officers whose maximum was less than £260 a year as from, January 1 last. Minimum saiaries have now been fixed as follows: — ' (a) For officers employed at an annual remuneration or annual rate of remuneration, £243 per annum. (b) For officers employed at an hourly remuneration or hourly rate of remuneration, 2s 4d per hour. (c) For officers employed at a remuneration or rate of remuneration otherwise fixed or computed, a i rate proportionate to that set out j in paragraph (a). The additional remuneration is by way of allowance. Where payable, j superannuation contributions are to i be deducted from the amount. Overtime on the usual basis is payable j on the increased rate.
