FROM NORTH AFRICA TO CRETE
LANDING GROUNDS BOMBED. MALTA ATTACKS STILL FUTILE.

To-day's Cairo communique states: "Apart from patrol activity yesterday, there is nothing to report from our l]and foirces. "On Wednesday night our heavy bombers attacked the aerodrome at Maleme on Crete, fires being started among aircraft. "Our medium and light bombers were engaged over forward enemy landing grounds in the Fuka area, An aircraft was seen burning, and explosions were caused among dumps and encampments. "Yesterday our bombers' and fighters' attacks on enemy landing grounds were continued, direct hits being scored on aircraft and other damage inflicted. During the sub-
sequent air battle our fighters destroyed six enemy panes and damaged many more. "Our long-range fighters successfully attacked road targets between Mersa Matruh and Sollum. "The enemy continued his attacks on Malta yesterday but with no more success than previously. Our fighters shot down at least three of the enemy and a further Me 109 was destroyed by ground fire. "From the above and other operations six of our aircraft are missing."
