RECENTLY IN THE SOLOMON S.

PEARL HARBOUR, Oct. 22. Confidence that the United States would hold its ground in the Solomons was expressed by Lieut.-Colonel Richard Ma Grum, who commanded a dive-bomber squadron at Guadalcanar, and witnessed a phase of the current operations. He gave warning, however, that surface craft and land forces were needed as much as planes. In military operations the forces must be balanced; the United States must have land, sea and air superiority to hold the island.
