U.S. ECONOMIC MISSION

AUSTRALIAN PRODUCTS WANTED,

P.A. Gable.

CANBERRA, Oct. 22.

America is sending a special economic mission to Australia to procure bigger quantities of raw materiais for war industries. It is understood that the mission will propose that American business concerns should invest large sums of money to help the development of Australia's mineral resources. Some of the commodities wanted by the United States in iiicreasing quantities are zinc, lead and copper. The United States is also taking from Australia heavily increased quantities of wool, all kinds of skins and some sugar. Four or five specialists will shorfjy come to Australia representing the United States Board of Economic Warfare. They will be permanent representatives of the board in Australia to assist in the supply problems of the two nations. The board handles private as well as Government transactions and thus differs from the lease-lend mission, which deals exclusively in the exchange of supplies between the Governments.
